Cosmic Goof: What wisdom, hard and soft, have you gleaned from touring?
Alex: The hard wisdom is to try and look after yourselves and eat lots of fruit! Life on the road is hard, and invariably ends up being debauched, which is why its so much fun. But mother nature will fight back at some point, if you don’t eat regularly and try and sleep when you need to. The soft wisdom that we adhere to, is give em a fucking good show every time. If there is 2 people thereor 2,000…they have paid money and made an effort to

come and see you, you owe it to them to lay it down!

Cosmic Goof: Do you have an all-time favorite P-Theory show?
Alex: I can’t remember dates or anything, but we used to have a residency at a really cool club in Liverpool called HeeBee Jeebies.
That was our favorite ever to play as it was a real funky club in the back streets of Liverpool built under the railway arches similar to the Cavern.

It had a booming sound system, and things got real greasy in there. Because the ceiling was so low the sweat used to run down the arched walls and over the power sockets that we plugged into, so it was always touch and go whether no-one got fried during the gig, which just added to the intensity of the pace. And the ladies that got in there….lets just say that Liverpool girls aren’t shy!

We always ripped it up in there, but one night one of the dealers came round with some new strain of ecstasy. He promptly sold 400 of the things in 5 minutes flat. We always sold out the place, and had a fanatical following in there, so our DJ (Stet) had the crowd already pumped before we played. 3 minutes into the first song, the whole crowd came up at the same time….they were like putty in our hands.

None of us had ever seen an audience go off like that before! They wanted us so bad that they were pulling us off stage and crowd surfing us, whilst we played, and there wasn’t a covered tit in the place.

We went on about midnight and, in the end, the police came in and pulled the power at 3 am. They had to form a wall with the bouncers in front of the stage, so we could get the gear out as the audience wouldn’t let us leave. That was such a buzz!

We always love the incredibly bizarre and surreal gigs. Especially when it involves laughing in the face of adversity, and making people have it….that on paper, shouldn’t like your show. So I suppose our next fondest memory would be the time we played this club in Leeds, I think it was called Liquor or something.

Anyway, we turned up there, and at the time…we were a lot louder than we are now. We had this real big guy on drums called Stu Brown. He was a horse of a man, with hands like a sliverback and hit the shit out of the drum. Me and Graham used to have 2 x 100Watt stacks each, just to keep up with him!

So we arrive at this place, and start loading in the gear. We start checking out the DJ, who was spinning some sort of jazz from Montreaux shit, pure Swiss Cheese! The type of music we hate! The kind that sounds like an ice cream van!

I’m sure it was all very clever and stuff, but I would rather toast my testicles on a George Foreman grill that hear that sort of shit!

So anyway, we thought “this is gonna be interesting, why the hell were we booked to play this place?”. We plugged in and hit the first song with some massive guitar wank off….there were people diving under the tables in fear.

The manager of the club is ranting and raving at us at in front of the stage. Then it dawned on us….there were no women in the place!

The penny dropped with us all at the same time, and we’re all shouting to each other, “this must be a gay club”. There was only one thing to do…we went straight into a version of the Funkadelic song “Jimmy’s Got A Little Bit Of Bitch In Him” and they loved it. After that we had them, and those guys had a hoe down!

Cosmic Goof: What are the shows like now that Kevin is in the band?
Alex: Shows with Kevin are great fun but crazy at the same time. Kevin is one of the best frontmen in the world, and is great at controlling the audience and the band. What’s different with him is that all plans go out of the window, and you really have to stay on your toes to stay with him….whatever direction he takes things.

Cosmic Goof: Will there be tour dates associated with From the Wood to the Hood? Any plans to play in the US?
Alex: We are currently finalizing an itinerary for both Europe and the US. We will be doing shows in the North East of the US in July and as soon as the schedule is available you’ll be the first to know.

Cosmic Goof: Anyone you haven't worked with that you'd really like to?
Alex: We’ve worked with so many people over the years, in one context or another, that it is difficult to single out any individuals. We’d love to see if Bootsy stills wants to play the funk at some point…what else do we need? We got Kevin!

Cosmic Goof: What's the most fun you've ever had on stage?
Alex: Probably when Timmy (a singer) threw a bucket of water over me, whilst I was plugged into a 20k rig on my knees with every fuzz pedal I owned switched on. Sure gave me a surpize! I thought I was gonna die!

Then I worked out that it is only very low voltage going to and from the guitar. I got him back though, later in the gig he climbed on my shoulders and I launched him 15 ft in the air, as he was only a little guy, and he came down in the most crumpled heap you ever seen. I thought I’d killed him for a minute.

Cosmic Goof: Is there anything more precious than music?
Alex: Love, family and health apart from that, not really
